Meaning of Tawadhu
Once, Jablah bin Aiham, king of the Kingdom Gassanah traveled to Medina. According to historians, he arrived in the entourage to the second holy city for Muslims to convert to Islam. Once in Medina, the group was received with great joy by the Caliph Umar ibn Khattab.
When the pilgrimage season came, Jablah go for Hajj with 'Umar. When air-tawaf, gloves Gassanah king was trampled to release it. Jablah was furious and beat the man who stepped up to a bloody sheath. Men who come from tribes that Fuzarah complained to Umar.
"Why did you hit this guy?" asked Umar. "He has stepped sarungku to release it," replied Jablah. Umar said, "Did not you have expressed to Islam? In return, you should try to make it or he's willing to do such acts which you have done to it."
With great pride, Jablah blessing, "Is it worth me doing! I am a king, while he is the commoners." Umar exclaimed emphatically, "Islam regards cooperation between yourselves (the king) and himself (the commoners). There is nothing that makes you have a degree higher than him, besides his good deeds."
"By Allah, I converted to Islam and hoped to be more noble than the period of ignorance."
Umar said, "You'll like it." Jablah said, "I Tangguhkanlah until tomorrow so that I can think about it, O Commander of the Faithful." Umar said, "Please."
But at night, Jablah and his entourage fled instead to arrive in Constantinople and met with Heraclius. He did not want to be tawadhu and opt out of the teachings of Islam which teaches equality.
The story contained in the Sira Umar ibn al-Khaththab of Ahmad at-Taji that contains the message that Islam teaches tawadhu attitude as exemplified by the Prophet Muhammad and his companions.
Tawadhu is submission to God and humility and compassion for His servants. Insan that tawadhu are servants of God who walked the earth with humility.
(Surat Al-Furqan [25]: 63).
People who tawadhu are those who never act haughty and arrogant and never arrogant. Allah says, "And do not look away from human (for pride) and do not walk in insolence through the earth.
Truly Allah does not like people are arrogant and pride. "(Surat ash-Syu'ara [31]: 18). Actually, one of the most noble in the sight of Allah is the most cautious person. (Surat Al-Hujurat [49]: 13).
